Civil and Environmental Engineering students from the Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) program at Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) have brought fame to their institution by winning awards at "The 9th Academic Contest: The Future Civil Engineers 2024" (TFCE) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This achievement reflects their commitment to becoming highly skilled professionals and aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The competition featured 24 teams from three countries: 20 from Vietnam, 2 from Thailand, and 2 from Indonesia, showcasing a diversity of talent and intense competition within Southeast Asia.

Led by Surasak Sukjangcharoen, Nattawut Phasi, and Noppaisit Vichuekkanon, students from the RMUTL BIM and 3D Model Club, under the mentorship of Dr. Pornpot Nusane, a faculty member from the Civil and Environmental Engineering department, participated in the event held at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education from September 20-22, 2024. The team secured two major awards:

  • Best English Presentation Prize (1st place out of 24 teams)
  • Consolation Prize (4th place out of 24 teams)

The achievements of the RMUTL team not only demonstrate academic excellence but also align with several SDGs, including:

  • Goal 4: Quality Education – Demonstrating the high quality of RMUTL’s education by producing internationally competent graduates.
  • Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – The team's project emphasized the development of civil engineering innovations and technology.
  • Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – The presented project focused on sustainable and resilient infrastructure development.
  • Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Participation in the international competition highlights the establishment of global networks and collaboration.

This success aligns with RMUTL's vision of being a "leading university in professional and technological education, producing graduates who improve the quality of life in society, communities, and local areas sustainably." It also showcases the students' ability to apply knowledge and skills in solving real-world problems.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surapol Jaiwongsa, President of RMUTL, said, "This success not only brings recognition to our university but also reinforces our philosophy of 'producing graduates with professional knowledge and skills.' It aligns with our mission to cultivate a workforce that supports the nation's development."

Dr. Wisanu Thonglek, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, RMUTL, added, "Our students winning awards on an international stage proves the success of producing professional graduates with international communication skills and creative problem-solving abilities, key qualities driving future sustainable development."

Dr. Pornpot Nusane, the team's advisor, emphasized, "The students' success resulted from their dedication and perseverance, as well as the university's full support. Winning these awards is a source of pride not only for the team but also an inspiration for future students to continue developing themselves and creating innovations that address sustainable development. Competing against teams from various countries and emerging victorious demonstrates the potential of Thai students on the international stage."

This achievement brings recognition not only to RMUTL but also attests to the quality of its Civil and Environmental Engineering program, which equips graduates to compete internationally and play a vital role in advancing Thailand's engineering sector and driving sustainable development in the future.
